Rebranding Of Film & Video

Film & Video Focus Group is undergoing a rebranding exercise. This is to cater to a more diverse approach towards film and video. With the change in name, all roles and responsibilities will also take on a more professional approach. Students will be trained in all aspects of video and audio with a selected few to be cross-breed between video and photography. The aim is to cover a broader spectrum in the use of new media and its technologies.

With effect from January 2010, Film & Video is now known as Media & Broadcast Team or MBT in short. MBT provide multiple avenues for students interested in the field of new media to learn and apply their skills and techniques. With this, students will further hone their expertise in producing, editing and reporting using new media technology.

Executive Committee members will hold a more in-depth responsibility in a project. The aim is to empower students to be self reliant and motivated to succeed well in all adversities. This will in turn help students build their self confidence and allow students to take with them valuable life skills.

GMAC Student Reporters' Challenge 2009

Introduction:

As part of its ongoing public education efforts, GMAC is organizing the GMAC Student Reporters’ Challenge 2009. Participants of this year’s competition will be tasked to create educational video clips based on the theme of “The Facts and Myths of Genetically Modified Foods”.

The Task:

The 2009 “Student Reporters” face the following task:
“There is increasing adoption of GM crops worldwide. Proponents say that GM technology and GM crops offer one solution towards food shortage and food security issues, and argue that GM foods are at least as safe as, if not safer, than their conventional counterparts. Opponents, on the other hand, are skeptical of the actual benefits of GM crops and GM foods, and question their safety on human health and the environment.

You and your colleagues are reporters of the SSC (Singapore Science Channel). In view of the controversy and intense debate surrounding GM crops and GM foods, your boss tasked your team to produce a video feature on the facts and myths of GM foods. As part of the project, you are to interview residents of the Singapore heartlands to find out what their views on GM foods are, and what they understand, misunderstand, or do not understand about the subject. As responsible reporters, you are to debunk common misconceptions about GM foods, and unravel the science-based truth.”
